Best of Friends
Best of Friends
From different places of departure
we met on the same road of life
probably because we were so alike
Our backgrounds could not have been more different
but from our wanderings a bond was formed
a deep abiding friendship built on a sure foundation
of mutual love and trust
Confidences were respected, humour often ribald
We were spiritually atuned and richly blessed
His wife and two boys were the finest
his pride and joy
We often sat for hours and talked the time away
never a dull moment was scored
A symbiosis of love and trust, a brother indeed
He often reproved and warned
I should have taken more heed
He spoke with clarity and wisdom, now sadly missed
Early one Sunday his wife called to say he had died
playing on a rugby field
Tears welled as I became distraught
I sobbed bitterly, alone, unable to comprehend
yet found solace that his passing was not the end.
Nor ever could be
