Poetry and much more at festival in Charles Causley's centenary year
The Charles Causley festival taking place in Launceston from 1-5 June has a special significance this year - 2017 is the centenary of the birth of the Cornish poet. Causley, who died in 2003, wrote for both adults and children, and drew inspiration from folk songs, hymns, and ballads.
Events at the festival include the Causley Trust’s poet/musician in residence, Cahal Dallat, talking about and illustrating his new settings of Causley’s poems, with music (on piano, mandolin, accordion, flute). He will be joined by his wife, poet Anne-Marie Fyfe, reading excerpts from Causley’s poems, prose, life and letters. Other poets at the festival include Murray Lachlan Young, Philip Gross, Victoria Field and Rory Waterman.
Other events at the festival include theatre and film performances, and walks, tours, readings, talks and discussions, and exhibitions. Opening the festival weekend are shanty-style singers The Fishermen’s Friends, from Port Isaac. More details
