The calm was the last thing to fall
the calm was the last thing to fall
we had such high ceilings
I think the building
was from the eighteenth century
it was wonderful in the summertime
the way I dressed then
what a peacock
shirts were silk
shoulda seen the cleaning bills
she was an angel
background was theatre
family was rich
we vacationed in the mountains
job had a lot of prestige
oversaw twenty people
believed in what we did
compensation was generous
after I lost everything
and came here
a calm fell over me
you ask me
why I keep smiling
what can I tell you
everyday
I thank god I’m alive

You're good! And funny, and ruthless. And wonderfully grounded in wisdom.
