Viva Valencia

entry picture

A sparkling gem nestled on the Costa Blanca

An explosion of art culture and history

You welcomed me with open arms

I was your student and you revealed your mysteries

Along your bustling streets and avenues I roamed

From plaza to plaza discovering your historical past

Once a roaring river and now an oasis of green

I am lost in the Turia Gardens long may it last

On the bus turistic I marvel at the cities majestic sites

The old and the new sitting content side by side

Magnificent feats of modern engineering

Glorious ancient monuments and churches collide

As the sun under a clear blue sky smiles upon me

Laid back friendly natives make my day

I long to return and once again we will embrace

Viva Valencia - what more can I say

Hi Colin - I spent a couple of days there. Stayed just off the Plaza de la Reina. Pleased that I evoked some mostly positive memories for you. Thanks for your feedback. Gracias. T?

I stayed in the old part of Valencia for a month or so some many years ago and have very fond memories of the city plus ones of almost being mugged by gypsies and watching the druggies try to steal the cassette radio from my VW Beetle. Fortunately neither succeeded. Thanks for sending me back to that time with this poem Tom. Col.
