Playing Adults
we find ourselves in situations
without a clue, without directions
going as far as we can
before the line dips in the red
memories of childhood
through adolescence
remind us that
we've always done this
when there was someone
to call for help
now there's someone on the floor
a fire starting next door
or bad news from stars
about to touch our heads
for a moment we're a lost child
decades of learning don't apply
not a stranger in the world
would believe anything said
our minds spin like Vegas wheels
remembering better deals
why didn’t we take them
when we had a chance
we reach for a god talked to last
after that whole curry mess
we assume the voice,
make our choices, then we hide in bed
