"write about us" (01/30/2018)
"I love you"-- laboratory euphoria
crossing stars and sparks,
bridging blackouts and cold sweats
and pleas that I come to bed
"I love you" -- biting feeding hands
and still you feed me,
nourish me, hold me
and push us to grow
in the well tilled garden of one another
"I love you"-- oil slick Oceana clearing ,
chasing the sunset,
healing by eternity ;
it feels like my lungs were made to drown in you
"I love you"-- words fail and faulter to catch all of it,
pour it into a form big enough,
spilling out the sides of every mould,
every container, every stanza,
every paragraph
"I love you" so clumsy with a human tongue
and lips and teeth leaving their marks on what may have been meant to be
"I love you"-- I don't believe in fate or god but this is self-evident to be the culmination of the importance of the human condition
"I love you, I love you, I love you"
No matter how many times I say it, it'll never come out right.
It'll never encapsulate what it is I'm feeling when I lay next to you,
awake at night, under different blankets on that squeaking broken bed,
the dog snoring at our feet,
your fingertips permeating me as he steals all the sheets and
we laugh
because it's just kind of funny,
not enough to laugh but together
everything is just a little more elated
a little more real
a little more true.
"I love you" caught fresh and cut up in neat little lines
shared sacred between us
Shipwrecks stapled up and propped together
stronger than you'd ever think
taking it day by day, well into eternity
folded end over end, eyes closed and unsure
where one begins and the other ends
and having that feel like home.
