"Homeward"
My fervid heart, my incredulous ache,
my beast of burden;
unsatisfied and yearning
for all of the emptiness and vitality
between creation and death.
"Don't feed it," "Pay it no mind."
Tell me, how am I to do so,
when it crawls through my bloodstream
and dances atop the tip of my tongue when I speak?
It breathes my oxygen, it cripples me so.
Yet, I long for its embrace,
beautiful in all of its tempestuous song.
This is where I choose to dwell tonight-
powerless to my shadows,
their looming charm.
Shape me
into a formless,
unspeakable truth;
a coalescence of eternal and mortal life.
Drain me of all light,
teach me that there is meaning
beyond what I am capable of grasping.
Carry me on your practiced wings,
bury me in the ashes of your woes.
You are the instrument
which grants me ephemeral equilibrium.
You are the wind which passes through
the wild and wizened trees--
A timeless hymn singing me homeward.
