they came
Sparklers in the dark
They came
2 grown ups
2 children
And a carrier bag.
Pockets and stomachs empty
Hearts full of hope.
They came from a green visual paradise
To the unremitting grey of an urban Midlands December.
And they breathed the colours of life
Into the tattered and tired house
They filled the weary teary street
With sunshine smiles and exotic eastern promise.
And out of the darkest Black Country
Shone forth celestial light.

Hi Adam,
thank you so much for your feedback. I do have a bit of an advantage as I have the good fortune to work with asylum seekers and refugees and am constantly inspired by their tenacity and lust for life. Thanks again - it is a piece close to my heart.
