Weaving Woman
Where is the woman
Whose meditating fingers
Deftly bent flax
Twisted reeds to carry
Goods from market to family
Where are the women
With backs tired from sitting
Stiff necks and watery eyes
From hours of focus
Thinking only of the much needed
Income to come
For food
And maybe a few school supplies
Where are the women
What are they doing
Countries away
Great Wall of time zones
Between us
Are they eating,
Sleeping
Or weaving still
Weaving by oil lamp light
Or calendula wax
Arthritic fingers
Crafting a future for her children
Wherever she is
She matters
And I love her
