Love and Love Lost

I don’t hate you for all the promises made that you couldn’t or wouldn’t keep.

I don’t hate you for convincing me that when I looked in your eyes I was seeing the future.

I don’t hate you for the passion in your kiss that seemed to always promise there would be more.

I don’t hate you for fooling me into thinking you were the one that was different. When in reality you were just the same as the rest.

I don’t hate you for not taking the time or putting in the effort to truly learn who I am, instead of just pushing me away little by little.

I don’t hate you for saying you just weren’t ready for a relationship, then turning around and entering yet another one.

I don’t hate you for being a disappointment in my life, actually in a way I thank you for that.

I don’t hate you for making me believe that when you said you loved me you even knew what the word meant.

I don’t hate you for being lost in this world and stringing me along for the ride, we are all a little lost.

No I don’t hate you at all; you were just one lesson in this life, one that has only made me stronger.

However, I do thoroughly dislike that you ruined a perfectly good Ed Sheeran song, among a few other things.

Was it Frank Sinatra, asked why he and his wife divorced (Ava Gardner) said 'she just didn't know the songs'.
