Love

Your tongue

is a lackey of the brain

and simply quacks.

But your eyes

reflect the soul

which cannot lie.

Intimacy

is in the look

not the sound

and transcends

even touch.

Love

crosses space

and time -

a truth

without dimensions.

the soul

which cannot lie

Dear Cynthia. I like this very much because it implies (correctly) that the soul is not governed by the conscious mind; that the soul has an agency of its own that by-passes intentionality and it is these unintended gleams we see in people's eyes.

Best wishes

John

What fun! I actually do think that the eyes reveal more truth than any other form of communion between two people. 'windows to the soul' is a marvellous understanding, although I can't remember right now who wrote it.

I believe artifice can be read clearly in the eyes. How often do we shut our eyes to avoid looking deeply into someone else's, avoiding the message we don't want to know?

Don, I think existence IS philosophy.

Hi Cynthia again,

I had to come back to this again. 'cause it niggled me. You are a much more experienced poet than my 12 mths so should I be posing questions as a mere amateur ?:

"But your eyes reflect the soul which cannot lie".

Could you have perhaps have been enticed down the path that the soul is all nice and doesn't lie. Your verse is warm and feel-good but is it a true image of the soul ? Or where indeed do truth and lies in the eyes originate from? The soul? The mind ? (Gosh, I feel like I'm in a philosophy class)

No Colin, you are not a dunce, for if dunce you be, then so be I (gosh, I've gone all Shakespeare-like - must be my mentor Brian's influence...)

Now being serious. Cynthia, your eyes can lie. Look at me. Are you telling me the truth? Yes (lie). So there seems to be a contradiction. If the eyes reflect the soul lies also dwell in the soul ? I don't know. Perhaps the soul is bi-resideable, truth and lies ? Hmm...

I do have a habit of playing around some times.

However, I do like the structure of this one. Short and simple. My favourites. Particularly the first and last verse.

And I also liked part of that one from your past

your Love poem Cynthia has stopped me in my tracks. I like it very much but cannot decide if I wholeheartedly agree - for sound and touch surely play an important part when it comes to intimacy - but do they equal the look from eyes? And are eyes not capable of deception too? Of course I might just be a dunce in these matters . . .
