Grenfell Falls Green

entry picture

Grenfell Falls Green

Another minute’s silence
Seventy two seconds to be precise
One second for the loss
Of each precious life
Please join me for a moment
To remember those beautiful lives…

As day turns to night
Grenfell falls green
Green for Grenfell
Everywhere to be seen
Grenfell, once a green field
Now the tower is green

Green for peace
Green for love
Green for solidarity
Green for hope

Five years on
Little solution in sight
A shroud now covers the tower
Glowing green throughout the night

Some survivors still in hotels
No place to call their own
Kids try to do their homework
Sadly it’s not their home
Parents say their prayers
Hoping that they can cope

The protests continue
For justice they strive
In true Grenfell spirit
Diverse communities unite

Flags flown at half mast
By the fire fighters who tried
Grenfell victims let down
But you’ll never break their pride

So when they march in silence
for themselves, the homeless, the victims
and then if you ask them why?
they’ll say, we march in silence
because no-one is listening, that’s why

Jeff,
A truly excellent poem. It compares most favourably with the poem about Grenfell written by the African writer Ben Okri. It is worth giving his poem a read.
Well done
Thanks
Keith
