The Present

Ribbons unravelled

and paper torn,

unfolding ruffles from tissue

wrapped around a velvet pouch.

Unrolling reveals

a bed of woven silk

sewn in cotton threaded pearls

on which a silver sixpence lies

enamelled, timeless

currency captured for all eternity.

Reflections swallowed

on a carousel, spinning recollections

in the blink of an eye.
