Newly Married Man Takes A Cashiers Job At A Supermarket And Studies At The Open University In The Hope Of Bettering Himself.
It's been a busy day and I know I'll take it home with me. Every unkind word, an unkind gift to be enjoyed later as I rest, every lack on interest and every piece of indifference. It's coming home with me. Keeps me company, so the wife remains ignored. Waiting for me to respond, but I ignore her like they ignore me. She doesn't deserve this, I know. She deserves better, I know. Used water draining away and I am the bath-tub that is left behind, drained and dirty. All over the place if I wasn't there. Who would you scowl at? Who would you be glad that you are not? Who would you be better than? How would you mark your worth? The same way I do, by the sadness on her face. Because we are the same, you just stand taller on your purse than I. You look down but I look up and I would much rather be me. As ill as I am, I could never be you. I could never be you. "Next please".
