Calm
Calm
We are at war
We are at war
and I should not be calm.
We are on the battleground
Holding our castles
and guarding our rights and riches.
We, you and me, are at war my love
And I should not find peace.
Remember?
You and I built the bridges and burnt the forests
You and I conquered the mounts and rode the vales
You and I ploughed the lands and sowed the seeds
Yet
You and I sharpened our swords and honed our arrows
You and I blowed the hornets and drew the blood
Together and at each other.
Amidst the storm of hatred and rage and confusion and insult
A shadow from our past stood holding his arms wide to embrace all my vileness.
Calm descended.
