The Wilderness of the human heart
The simple vision of a child
Will make us see that time is really only borrowed
And that what we perceive is more than half intended
Wild obscurity blocks our view, until the curtain’s rent in two
And too many seconds become too few.
Persecution sets the heart on fire
Memories coagulate like blood,
Gather around the brain
Pass through the arteries of the heart
Where we tear each other apart:
The body and the heart.
Even goodness turns sour in the heat of the day
Stupidity, anger, greed, pride - the echo of its echoes -
With no place of refuge, with no place to hide.
The blacker the heart, the purer the deception
So, look through the glass darkly,
Take that wild but bitter-life-embrace
Sail that great big clipper ship
‘And learn to face the devil heart-to-heart...'.

Sounds like the words to a song that you may have written here John. But you are right about the state of somebody's heart that says so much about them.
Nice one
