DISTANCE
And did my Daddy call for war
And was it truly just?
For better or for worse, my dear,
In Daddy we must trust.
But mummy where does Evil live
That we know where to fight?
The dark of foreign lands, my pet
Far from this blessed light.
So do they hate us in those lands;
Will they cut off my head?
There’s Evil in the world my love
Well – that’s what Daddy said.
But are the children evil too;
What do their Daddies say?
Oh yes - so great their evil, love,
They pray five times a day.
I’ll hide my toys, so they will live
When Evil comes for me!
Yes – greater love hath no child dear -
And then it’s time for tea.

Mr Singleton, this is powerful. You wield 'clever' like a whip, dripping with healing irony. The last two lines are outstanding.
