A River of Wishes
Wishes on hopes that deflate with the breeze
Longings for things that should not be
A lost soul shining with a light that frees
a spirit from self-induced captivity
A heart barren as Demeter's wintery earth
absent the light that opened its soul
from Hades' realm it awaits her rebirth
A lone shade wandering the paths of sheol
Persephone cursing the seeds she injested
Her choices, mistakes, that formed her cage
would know the pain of oneself detested
Hades' actions misguided, inward turns the rage
Zeus' godly intervention not forthcoming
Lethe's waters tempt with the promise to forget
Momentary, fragmented, false voices humming
dimming that light would be your biggest regret
Realities, present and past, block the way
Impenetrable boundaries with transparent views
If wishes and will and heartache were enough to pay
the ferryman's toll I'd endure Phlegethons' fiery spews
Bathed in Acheron's tears, dampened by Cocytus' rain
as reality sets in and hopes shrivel in the light of day
Still, her light fills my dreams, soothes my pain
Our souls touched, I'll feel her light, come what may.
