Mr. Skoulikaris
Mr. Skoulikaris' earthly expertize
like dolphins, ballet beneath the seas'.
A synchronized swimmer of the soil,
his elongated torso coils, curves,
graceful and fluid through tuberous roots
and seedlings. Aerating, preparing the soil
for delicate tendrils to permeate
on their journey. Photosynthesis,
ultimate metamorphosis to saturate earth
that we might feast our eyes.
Mr. Skoulikaris, a common species
loving humidity of warmth and rain,
busy work never done.
Unlike mad dogs and English men,
is rarely seen out in the mid-day sun
until...
a fisherman comes his way
carrying sawdust, bucket and spade.
Poor Mr. Skoulikaris.
A fisherman decides his fate.
This is one i wrote last year and was inspired by a Greek man i met who told me that his surname, Skoulikaris, means 'worm' in English.
Please excuse if you've read it before but i know there are many here now who haven't . Janet.x
