The Day Will Come
It's 2 o clock in the morning, soon 3 then 4!
It's a cold, cold night and the rain does pour.
I'm not as young as I was, but a job to be done.
As I pack away the famous Knotty Ash drum.
The moggy skin coat I lay across the back seat.
Dicky Mint sits quietly, another show complete.
These times can be hard, but please hear this.
The day will come when these times I will miss.
Costumes, hats, tickling sticks all packed away.
Soon home to Knotty Ash, it's been a long day.
Doddy says his goodbyes, programmes to sign.
The bright Theatre lights, they no longer shine.
One day I will sorely miss our after show routine.
For year after year we've made the perfect team!
We finally drive away, to make the journey home.
I will yearn for these times, when I am left alone.

Only too true, and beautifully expressed. You must have reason to 'know' you will be 'alone'. It doesn't seem like speculation.
