Stealing Time

Rays crackin’ jokes tonight,

Jill takes a while, the context

much more poignant than the punchline.

Humour seconded, yet still both soothe her soul.

“Pesto, the Italian Dennis the Menace”

Tastes so much better as

a simile,

Than the so called toastie dressing

Jill has licked favourably from her lips.

Ray steals more time

I collect another quote,

For the looming day of earth and wood.

The sparkle in their eyes

Lifts my heart, yet it sits still below their own,

As a spectator to the fireworks of their valentine’s delight.

As their child I ponder, in wonder, love has yet to play in life’s yonder.

Born to view their accumulated joys, journeys and assumed later lesser days.

Humiliated I see amongst their final lessons played out

Enduring Love quietening all, quelling the pain,

Dismissing the misinformed advice of my comparative conceited youth.

Ray n Jill, stealing time,

Children kneeling

Wisdom sublime.
