British Democracy is Falling Apart
British Democracy is Falling Apart
Preamble
I have based this on a letter to our paper a few days ago. The following day another letter writer expressed interest in seeing his first draft of a new model government? Then followed yet another letter saying the opposite. He believed British democracy was not falling apart. It was discussed in a civilised manner in Parliament by intelligent members elected by the people. Protests have been non-violent with no bloodshed. The army have not been called in. May presented a policy to Parliament who rejected it. True democracy at work the writer said. He concluded could we point to a superior system? North Korea perhaps?.....
British democracy is falling apart
The status quo terminally cracked
It cannot be put back together again
Like Humpty, it's terminally whacked
In Australia if we're not very careful
We'll follow very closely if don't fix
Our own cracked political culture
And sort out our own toxic mix
The challenge is for British body politic
To come up with a different plan
To replace the current moribund and non-working one
And for copy-cat democracies to scan
We are now approaching the politic 11th hour
Chaos and tyranny both waiting in the wings
To pounce on us rapidly and quickly
And bring their own tail with it's sting

I guess Bercow is loved/hated
Depending on which side you're on
You can't be an umpire, escape it
You have to wield a heavy baton
