Nosy Nellie
"Ooo, can I see?" she asked with a grin
I had no choice but to let her in
I had opened the door a bit too wide
And she was able to peek inside.
What she saw was really nothing
But, she just had to make it something.
Her nosiness was quite well known
In the neighborhood and around the town.
Always snooping in a friendly way
"I've just come for a visit!" she would say
She asked just the right questions
With all the right flair
She chuckled, she smiled
She postured with care
She wanted a story
Some bit of news...
"Have you fixed your deck?"
'Is that a new pair of shoes?"
She's pass along whatever she heard
Sometimes it was truthful
Sometimes just absurd.
Today was no different
Her eyes all aglow
She stepped through the doorway
And entered real slow.
What she saw made her pause
She was briefly tongue-tied
She blinked and she blinked
Then her eyes opened wide.
It was all right before her
A story so fine
So many angles
So truly divine.
We made some small talk
About this, about that
She asked if I knew about George's new cat
She then mentioned she needed to tend to something
And promised that she would give me a ring
We could have tea or go for a walk
We should definitely get together and talk!
She had what she'd come for
A juicy good score
So I bid her farewell
And then closed the door.
