One in a Million

entry picture

Academi, the Welsh Literature Promotion Agency, welcomed its one millionth audience member at a sell-out event held on Saturday, 20th March.

‘A Meeting of Two Laureates’ was held at the St. David’s Hotel in Cardiff, and had the Poet Laureate – Carol Ann Duffy, and the National Poet of Wales – Gillian Clarke, reading selections from their work and discussing the parallels and differences of their two respective roles. Academi knew that its one millionth member would be one of the attendees and, after careful counting, it was established that Euthalia Antippas from Cyncoed in Cardiff was that person.

To mark the occasion, Academi’s Co-Chair – Harri Pritchard Jones, and Chief Executive – Peter Finch, presented Euthalia with a certificate and a copy of the Welsh Academy Encyclopaedia of Wales.

A delighted and proud Euthalia said, “I am a fervent supporter of the Academi, and it’s a real honour for me to be the one millionth audience member”.

Academi has reached a million people (so far!) through its varied activities since its reformation in 1998, which include – courses, competitions, conferences, lectures and readings, events for schools, and festivals. They are now looking forward to the next decade with even more events and activities planned and, of course, their two millionth audience member!
