Poets add their voices to protests on Climate Strike day

entry picture

There was poetry taking place all over the world today, at demonstrations involving people  – and young people in particular - striking today (Friday 20 September) to draw attention to the climate crisis (this picture was taken in Brighton this morning). At just one such gathering, Poets for the Planet were meeting in Parliament Square from midday at an event organised with Modern Poetry in Translation.

Write Out Loud would like to share a poem by Matt Sowerby, which has been published by the Poetry Society on its Young Poets Network. Matt is from Cumbria, and involved in the protest group Fridays for Future. You can see Matt delivering his poem ‘So This Is How the World Ends’ here, including lines like “Watching Mother Nature’s eyes grow dim”, “If school taught me one thing, it’s to stop procrastinating”, and a reference to “that orange guy”.
