A euphemism preferred
When short on courage or will;
We sweeten up the word
Like a sugar-coated pill;
'Sorry, but I CAN'T help you...'
Sounds a little less uncouth;
'Can help but I DON'T WANT TO.'

The opposite, a three-letter CAN
I am much more partial to the three-letter
So the four-letter one, I you ban...
Very succinct, to the point, insightful and I love it. So true, hiding belligerence in polite speech.
