A Dark Seed
(something dark for Halloween)
I plant a black seed in the loam of your soul and water it with your tears,
I'll feed it with poison and vitriol and nourish it with your fears,
And it's roots will worm to your very foundations and suck at the love in your heart,
And it's fruits will burn on its withered boughs with the bitterness they will impart,
And the bark at its trunk will be made from your skin and your eyes will live in the knots,
And its blossoms will bloom for a day and no more then fall to the ground and rot,
And its leaves will absorb not a flicker of sunlight but hang from its limbs dead and dry,
And its sap it will draw from the well of your hope under these blackening skies,
And you will come to worship this tree, and fear it and loathe it and love it,
You fall on its dirt, to your knees and proclaim that none shall stand above it,
And it's fruits will drop from the heights of branches and scatter upon the floor,
And bury themselves in the loam of your soul to birth a thousand more.

Do you know what Ruth, you're right. I'd never even thought of that. The idea was for Halloween. It was a demon whispering poison and doubt into someone's ear.
