A Poem About Hatred

We cannot end the nightmare

only explain it.

Cruelty permeates benath the societal fabric,

Festering,

As it rises to the top like curdled cream.

It oozezs through

and overtakes the unsuspecting.

Spreading from host to host like a cruel fungus.

Twisting and morphing.

Until we succumb to the sweet vitriol.

I like this David. I think the 3rd line could do with some attention but otherwise it's a strong piece.

Don - that is a good question? Bitterness leads to cruelty in my experience, but what causes bitterness?

I like the way you use words David. It raises the question do we possess a cruelty gene? Born with one?.....
