Four Rings
A solitary ring of gold marks marks the move from child to man,
Gifted by the man who brought this child into the world,
One more golden band sits, third finger, left hand,
And represents true, undying love for the girl,
Then one of Titanium holds the strength of forty years,
And represents the gift of truly knowing who I am,
And finally the largest, cast in silver, represents the fears,
I cast into the endless pit of doubt, because I can.
Four rings, each a gift for my own children and one for my wife,
Each a silent marker of a milestone achieved,
Each a silent witness to the path that I've walked in my life,
Each a silent thank you for the gifts I have received.

Thanks Kev, I've got a few friends who would also never wear a ring. I think it's just a personal preference thing, like you say. I've always viewed rings as significant jewellery, i.e. I would never wear one just for the sake of it, but it's also true to say they can be dangerous. I know someone who ripped a finger off by getting their ring caught on a lorry door as they jumped out of the cab, and there's a famous outdoorsman called Dave Canterbury who obviously doesn't like them either 'cos he's got his wedding ring tattooed on his third finger.
