Reading the signs

entry picture

A holiday is a holy day,

Etymologically speaking,

Words drift and sway away

From meaning to meaning.

Neologisms take root, blossom, die

Making metaphors into touts

Who turn words inside out

Perform semantic cartwheels and fly

Or shrink: "Nan had a gay old time on the sly"

Words and phrases, used and abused,

Ad Infinitum. Passing by.

Begin each sentence with "So... "

Make a statement into a question?

Describe every animate and inanmate object as:

Not fit for purpose.

Split your infinitives

To surely succeed we proceed

To apostrophise our script

For to read is what we really need

To do.
