Bravo Don! Well said. We are all just humans wandering this Earth trying to find our way! Those who think otherwise or believe themselves to be superior are shallow! The Universe doesn't care what tone your skin is or what language you speak or how well you performed in school or if you're rich or poor or about sexual preferences. It's all about KARMA...

Love & help people, laugh, cry, hug, dance...before the Universe takes your chance of doing these things away!!!

Brian - I think that's the hope: string it out, scare enough
people and look as if you care when secretly you hope it
will all go back to the stealthily conceived political plan it
was at the outset when the magic words "common market"
seemed such a logical idea. Ironic then how "trade" is now
being used at every turn to delay and complicate matters.
As a resident of this great city, I take umbrage at these
"me me" marches blocking the streets and causing so much
aggravation for the rest of us who actually pay towards
what goes on here.

A very comprehensive spill of 'life', with spirit and imagination. Check 'sew' in 'reap what you sow', just to keep your intensity grooving without an unnecessary hiccup. Probably just a typo.

Thanks Graham - i'd like to be a royal lollipop man. Cut backs have increased their rarity as you say. Another public servant that can no longer serve - but I can dream (in another character). I imagine the Russians have plenty of protection here!

I accept the flower Anya ! Sometimes we tread on eggshells in comments, while others are like official stamps or rejections. Worry not. It's all a learning curve.

Thanks Hannah. An interesting aside, your story. I have worked in Buckingham Palace as a pianist and seen the whole royal assemblage close up. It is a closed world from which they look out, while we look in . It can't be any different, except that now the younger royals are really stretching themselves to relate. It can't be easy for them. I think they are aware of the gulf . We all our crosses to bear.

Thanks for the like, Taylor!

Interesting subject - always good for discussion.
I consider "communication" and the ability to remain in
recall as priorities in poetry, including both verse and
prose poems among personal favourites...with the former
ahead on sheer memorability and the pleasure of the "heartbeat" rhythm a good example should possess.
There can be a modern tendency to forget that words are
the tools of a writer's trade, to be chosen and treated with
care in both presentation and spelling. Too many slapdash
efforts suggest that this discipline is sidestepped, bringing
no credit to the writer or his/her product. If the lack of
effort is apparent, how can they expect anyone to bother
following through? Respect for one's craft works both ways. Love what you do, have something worth saying, respect its worth - and those you hope will want to read and/or hear it.

These lines bring the memory of a guy who used to be around my local streets and who could be the model for them - heavily bearded and hairy so that age was difficult to
discern; wearing heaven knows how many layers of clothing
under his jump-suit style outer garment - and the custodian
of a trolley from a well-known supermarket filled with all
sorts of stuff clearly collected from the street on his travels.
He was never any "trouble" from what I saw of him, just
a feature of the local landscape. This poem made me
realize I haven't seen him around for some time. I wonder
now - what happened to him? A worthwhile job by the
writer. Well done for the "blog-a-jog!"!

As a certain popular comic of yesteryear used to say:
"Oh, you are awful...but I like you!"
This is inventive, inviting, vigorous, vulgar, salacious and seductive. Porn for today's platform poet.

It's become a fact, I fear,
To chase us far away from cheer,
And keep us stressed from day to day,
So power and money can have its way.
Remember fridges and CFCs -
And tales of how they warmed the breeze,
Melting the Antarctic ice and snow?
No mention of volcanoes on the go
That occupy Earth's southern tip
And have its atmosphere in their grip.
Science is a flexible thing
And whilst we may its praises sing,
It also loves its own loud voice
And when it does, it can rejoice
At how the powerful and the wealthy
Listen closely - and (hardly stealthy)
Bang the drum and sound the alarm
About how we're doing expensive harm
And must rely on investing in science
Before we're doomed: "for strict compliance"! ?

Great poem! I grew up on a dairy farm. I get confused sometimes when I feel for somewhat attached to the animals but then I still sit down for dinner in the evening eating what is in the yard. It doesn't make sense why we do this . I really like this poem ?

A referral to my late father's copy of "The Fifth Division
In The Great War" published just after the conflict, and to
which, as a member of 1st btn/DCLI, he was attached, I am honour-bound to add the rank of Lt. Colonel to front
line casualties. And even as late as September 1918, the
above history noted that "The Division had been fighting
almost continuously since 21st August, during which time
it had advanced close on 14 miles. The casualties had
been severe - 210 Officers and 4085 Other Ranks...no less than 10 commanding officers having been killed or wounded.".
Undoubtedly, the high rate of attrition among officers saw
field commissions and the promotion of able non-coms
to take the place of lost officers. My own father was the
temporary brigade intelligence officer at the age of 19!!
Carry on the good work with your WW1 items.

Hi Hugh - you've described exactly what happens in dairy farming, except that dairy cows at the end of their productive period do not end up in restaurant meals...more likely dog food. Nevertheless I can't find a deep message if that was your intention. Otherwise a good rhythm and as always, strict rhyming.

Good poem Hugh and it makes a valid point..I live in a farming community.. I eat meat I am more concerned about their welfare whilst alive..from 'pastures green to plate' does seem a good life. The cows in UK and Ireland are fortunate indeed to live in that way. Unfortunately that is not always the way. ❤
