Found your audio of JC. I don't have facility to play it at the moment but will when I get home tonight.

Terrific poem, Dave; twitching in the wry. Have you got any more comical bird observations up your sleeve? Would make a great collection.

To J.C. from M.C. - I don't mind using my fizzog on chuckle-cheek verse...but leave it out for the more serious stuff. I wouldn't
want to upset the mood - or the reader!

Funny how our feelings can hang on something so
simple as a scent. The smell of wood smoke and
the crackle of burning timber never fades.
John - I uploaded an mp3 of an audio version I
have of DKJC - guess it didn't come off. But it's there to see. I have only just got
Adobe Flash 11 on my own netbook. More B.C.
than...
M.C. :-)

Enjoyed very much.
Incidentally, further to your comment on the word "fizzog", if that's yours at the top of the page I'd take it back. It's been well used!

Aww, you had me all choked up last night when you read this. I think you were a little choked yourself too. Beautiful, so poignant. Really well read too John, always a pleasure to see you

I only saw him twice, both times at Nottingham Forest.
When he first got the ball he approached Forest's full-back Peter (Mary) Winfield and feinted left, feinted right and feinted left again, only to find Winfield still there from the first feint! He didn't make the same mistake again.
On the second occasion he was earning a crust at the end of his career with Fulham. I left 10 minutes from the end with Fulham leading 2-0 to buy a pair of trousers before the shops shut. As I walked by the Trent I heard the crowd roar 3 times. Forest won 3-2!

Disagree with Steve. You're very good at this.
I appreciate the technical expertise to rhyme internally in such short lines and stay faithful to the sense.
Keep posting. (Where's the audio?).

Hi Ann, thx for commenting on 'fit'. As I have said somewhere, for someone who doesnt know anything about (Or actively avoids) football, you would never guess that these creations came from a match report. Win

Excellent Dave. Agree with the others re your stuff and the Tudor last night.
I dabble in a bit of incompetent bird-watching and the bearded tit is one bird which has always proved elusive. It's all those reeds it's alleged to hang out in. I don't think it exists, it's all a conspiracy.

Fantastic, I loved this last night. Have been really very down of late, but you and Ian, amongst others, really made me laugh out loud. You don't know how much I needed that!
Sometimes I wish I could write funny, but there's no need, when you do it so well :)

I really didn't appreciate how good this was till I heard it performed. It's one of those poems you just have to hear. I would say that it is exceptional - for me the best serious poem I heard last night or that I've heard in a long time. x

Thanks so much for your comments. I am so pleased with the responses to the poem - it was a sort of half dreamt poem to be honest and I didn't particularly rate it, just couldn't find anything else I was happy with either to post so thought I'd give it a shot. Thanks for your thoughtful words on it. Hope to see you soon. XXX

The simplicity of this gives it impact with a lot being said by the imagery. I didn't see the earlier versions but I think the tense is right as it is.
Is there a future for The People's Friend?

Stella/Lynn - it's great to know how you latched on so readily to the title. I'm a huge
fan of the lyricists of yesteryear and wanted
to create something that brought back the
way they wrote. You are my kind of audience!
Who can ever forget a title like "The Night We
Called It A Day"?
