hi Rachel- maybe I should make it 'clearer' I support the right to express 'anything' a poster wished to post, but I reserve the right to 'knock seven kinds of shite' out of the post as a consequence. I am then subject to the 'right' of others to support or attack my so doing. I think we are mostly in agreament on this...:o)

SEPTEMBER:

We had another full room of 25 poets and audience members including 4 newbies who we all really hope come back again!

Good Points: Supportive environment, great poetry, great spot by Robin, enjoyable, Robin'ds 15 minutes was brilliant, good poetry, a fun night again, good stuff again, newbies, very enjoyable, great, good night, great variety, first time for me very good, welcome and friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

Suprisingly all of the 'Areas For Improvement' dealt with the noise form the quiz downstairs so we are going to be starting at 7pm from now on so we finish before the quiz starts at 9pm.

See you next month for the other half of the 'Just Poets' duo, Norman.

Hi lynn, nice to see you again. You been here for some time now, i always treasure your comments. thanks for commenting on Harlequin. to be honest i think the music says it all. i have loved that track since the mid nineties. if you like it you can purchase just the single track from amazon.co.uk. it lasts for about 12 minutes. I always try to imagine myself as the eagle flying in the track, which led me to write that poem.

stay well lynn

thank you John.am I right in saying this is to
do with the assumption of parallel existences?
in a lot of recent revelations many scientific
discoveries have been turned on their heads
so although fascinating its fairly doubtful
we will get the real 'truths' until we do a lot
more'stepping stoning'of our neighbouring
planets-maybe.My thanks to you John-Patricia.x

Thanks, Rachel. Yeah, you surely went off on one there. It's a good poem, though I do say so myself, apart from the last line, which even I don't understand now - I think I meant "escape a penalty" though fuck knows why.

Thank you Lynn and Thomas for taking the trouble to comment so kindly. I always enjoy
a bit of fun in verse and what better to find
anywhere than the excuse for a chuckle? As a
newcomer to the site (but not WriteOutLoud) I'm
delighted to note kindred spirits in evidence.
The more serious stuff may follow!

tommy, its a tough one. i believe that if something is written and posted and it offends which all sorts of material is likely to do on all sorts of grounds..i think the writer should be held accountable to their readers as would be with published work. here a comments system operates.so if i were to offend i would personally feel obliged to defend, explain my writing. sometimes its an agree to differ situation. if someone were to post something inciting hatred be it racial, concerning disability, whatever i still beilieve it should stand and be criticised. As such it offers an exampler of its inadequacy as an idea. if someone were to post sexually inapropriate material i believe there should be a standard of censure based on the accessibility of this site to young people as a moral obligation.
concerning freedom of speech once blogged this goes out to the world potentially. Its a gift but just a medium. free media..is up for exploitation like anything else. I think we can only measure our own writing. I have only ever once been offended by a slight comment on this site and ive been a member for years. I think that a sign of its credibility and the level of responsibility of its writers.
Thanks for posting this.

Thanks for your comment on 'Murphy's War,' M.C.
I'm about to put it on audio. I think you should do as well with'The Spider': Very subtle and amusing. we need more of this.
I was also a fan Of Milligan. I read a Xmas Card
of his once, the greeting was:

"Christmas may come and Christmas may go,
There's nothing to stop it as far as I Know.

We could learn a lot from Spike. - Cheers mate.

haha i have just reread this poem and all those comments. i have no idea why i wanted to apply the golden number theory to this poem, i must have just discovered it on a late night documentary...it was 1.30 am. so i agree, my comments - rubbish
your poem - ok
best line - filter and ferment into something fruity.

Hello, thanks for your comments.

Bernard actually exists, I met him when he was in the next bed to me in hospital and we kept in touch. He's a great character, 89 and still going strong, and he does have the knack of turning up just when he's needed - as he did the other day when I had been banging my head against the wall, spending time phoning up people who didn't care much if I lived or died.

And he does have an armoured car in his barn on the farm where he lives, it's a Ferret Scout Car that he's restoring. He also found a load of explosives when diving on a wreck off Mull and they tried setting it off on the beach to see if it would still ignite!

Disappointingly - from his point of view - it didn't, so they put it in an oil drum, under water, which apparently stabilises it, and he took it home. When he moved house, he thinks he forgot to take it with him to the farm, so if you hear a big bang from West Yorkshire, it means that the new owners have found it...

Great series Andy, just need to do those couple of amends for this and it'll be spot on!

It would be good to experiment on doing a kind of 4 piece concierto on this as A Means to an End, bit like ELO's 4 track 'Concierto for a rainy day' on 'Out of the Blue' - I don't think we're quite up to their standard, but between the lot of us, we might manage something! cheers Jeff
