This is so true and not just words. When my husband was dying at the age of 54 because of leukemia there were really true friends who have said: "I am coming!'

Hello Terry, yet another good poem from you. Although your poems seem short, there is a lot they say, and in the main I can identify with them. I like in this one the first line of the 3rd verse 'no magic man, no smile, no sinner in the palm of your hand' a nice line.

Best wishes

mike

Lynn! My dearest friend! Thank you so much for the comment on "A La Larissa Perfume". I can only resume: Please, do me a favor and ...go on showing me my mistakes or write your suggestions on this or that verse.

Love, hugs and warmest wishes,

I did try and read about the later Roman empire, David, both Rome and Constantinople, but became became bewildered by the number of assassinated emperors. Just when I was getting interested in one he was bumped off. It seems to have been the only way of disposing of them.

A lovely description of somebody who I wish would visit my life occasionally! I do love poems with specific people/places/events. More personal and interesting.

I hoped 'For the Record' my appeal to the journalist in you, Greg. Egalabulus was certainly a dodgy emperor but also had a very bad press. I read this poem at a reading in Grimsby last night thinking I'd found a really obscure topic, but a poet friend of mine said that someone has just brought out a biography about him(Egalabulus, that it!). I looked on Amazon and there are actually two that have just come out. Quite an achievement when The Praetorian Guards bumped him off by the time he was 18!

Sawubona Zethembiso. Wemukelekili to Write Out Loud. Ngiyabonga Kakhulu for the comments you made on Fathers 4 Justice. It is good to know that some people can look upon objectively and realize that yes, Men do after all have hearts. There is difficulty in the UK for children at the moment. And men are being given the blame for all societies ills.

I hope that you enjoy the site, and that your writings go from strength to strength.

Further, Black is beautiful! : )))

My wife is from Durban, a strong Zulu woman who knows how to (fairly), keep me in place.

I have visited Africa several times and know her to be a beautiful continent, I wish more people realized that.

One love Zethembiso, i believe in it. I believe in ubuntu.

Best wishes

Mike

Nice poem, good rhythm, which is difficult in something fairly long. I know not why "pickles, home-made" rather than home-made pickles. Is it over the pass? Not "around the pass"?

i like it.. it does convey the feeling well the incessant nature of disruption. cant help feeling the inherent contradiction of writing a poem like this..why not go out and stop going on, get the wind in your hair or something, im talking here ;)

i believe the secrets of meditation can only be found in practice, but the simplicity of the colour blue in this poem can be a release x

You have captured the feeling well... So annoying - isn't it?!
'To talk is to torture
You butcher my peace'

When I go to the beach... : )
'just silence and sunshine
and wind in my hair
and purity found in the clear blue air'

Chris
Missed this....very true

Once, as delegate in the seventies in Hungary, we boned the student interpreter to give us the lowdown on the revolution.

As he gave the official version loudly (for fear of a mike) his hand and facial gestures gave one of the most hilarious de-bunking performances of his words that I have ever seen....The people were never completely fooled by the lies.

I am so chuffed! It was a great night, lovely atmosphere and loads of people turned up. I think twelve people read, poetry and prose, and some songs too. Loads of friendly nattering in the interval, a lovely venue. Here's to the next one (Nov 1st) and a huge thank you to all who took part. You are all stars in my book!

This has a nice gallop to it - broken up a bit by the 'going on and on and on and on' bit. Perhaps that is the effect you were after. I get the feeling of a horse champing at the bit to get away. Won't go on anymore ;-) x
