A wonderful summary of these strange days Julie.
There are people who sit in idleness and complain...
and there are those who seek the opportunity to explore new horizons

I'm flattered by all of your comments. Many thanks.
It is nice to be back here amongst friends and free of trolls! (Well, I haven't encountered any on here so far!).
My long absence has been due to work, family concerns and illness; but I haven't been idle. I've published 3 books this year (albeit not poetry).
It is wonderful to share, get pleasure and learn from each other here. I have learned much and am inspired by all of you. Thank you.

If they ask me where hell be,
I'll merely say "Selby"!

Hear-hear ! In the UK there is an organisation called The Woodland
Trust who do such things and my own late elder sister had trees
planted in her memory in a beautiful South Devon spot. The reward
is two-fold in its benefit - personal and general. What's not to like?

Top marks for the consistency in its imagery of how the mundane
detritus of life can reduce its quality when discarded without thought.
The occasional near-rhyming works in the overall picture on view.
Good one.

A beautifully crafted poem written from heart to heart. As a young soldier many years ago, I can relate to this. I wrote weekly to my mum. She was my mainstay, especially when overseas.

John,

As a veteran of 10 years military service both at home and abroad this is the first poem which recognises that those at the front, those engaged in bitter conflict do so with their minds full of what they carry with them. Love, betrayal, anxieties, memories cherished and others rather forgotten. The act of going into conflict is a culmination of intense fear, fierce resolve and the ever hopefulness of survival. Few will ever know the horror of personal confusion in the minds of those who fought. For the life of me I cannot image the first morning of the Somme. Those lads with all their overt and hidden luggage were brave to death. It brings tears to my eyes to think of their steadfastness in the face of metal and thunder.
This poem brings to mind much. The fourth stanza touches on the mental effect of mortal combat and the knowledge that death is a whisper too close.
Thank you for this
Keith

The girlfriend of London Bridge attack victim Jack Merritt ,Leanne O'Brien said he "opened so many doors for those that society turned their backs on".

She also shared an article written by Jack's father urging people to "extinguish hatred with his kindness".

I love the sheer poetry of you work Keith as much as I do your chosen topics. Which may seem a strange reference but sometimes we can get so caught up in what is being said that we lose out on the expression of the words. Your work never disappoints.
