The winters do take their toll, but that only makes the summers all the sweeter. Great poem.

This really made me smile. Great poem. I love the confident defiance of it, as opposed to the gentle, subtle understanding of lines like, "Soared over heartache-deflected all pain, Only taking a break to feel the rain." Beautiful.

Have to agree, love this because it very cleverly and concisely speaks of one of the most important and also most difficult friendships in our lives.

Hi Julia, I’m glad that my poetry moves, inspires and makes you think. There are are a few poets on WOL that do the same for me, and to think I do that for you is very humbling. I hope you continue to contribute to WOL and poetry in general. As I have read you post and like them very much. All the best des.
Hi Rose thank you for the like. I much appreciate and value you opinion. For better or worst, so you can berated me sometimes without any animosity. I find you very much inspirational, especially when I first joined WOL. Keep up the great writing. All the best des.

Thanks Brian, Keith, Lisa, and Branwell for the like.
Keith like most of my ideas this one comes from my own upbringing. I already know what happens in part 2, I've just got to get round to writing it. I'll be reciting it in Doncaster next month. 2nd Thursday in the Doncaster brewery and tap, and also in the University center (date to be confirmed)
Lisa, I was going to call this"a bag of spuds and a turnip" but struggled to rhyme it so changed it to Swede at the last minute.
Cheers Kevin

Hear...hear!
Just as well this lot weren't around when this old country was under threat from another sort of domination in WW2. They would still
be arguing as the landing craft arrived and the tanks rolled in.
They are servants of self-gratification in an ego-tripping age.

a useful tip I can offer you dk and anyone else with similar concerns is, and it does work, is, if your mums or dads are of poor health and own their own homes, homes they worked so hard for in most if not all cases, then if they are willing to go along with the idea get them to sign the house over to you and/or other members of the family.
In that way, the government can't get their hand's on it. But then, it does have to have been owned by the ' new ' owner for seven years before it can be sold if necessary when mum and dad have passed on.
It has worked for a neighbour of mine who is so pleased that the burden of worrying what will happen to it when she passes on is lifted off her shoulders.
This advice was instigated regarding dk's line " our kids and grandkids will have no home in the first place"
cheers dk.
ps-if it works for any of you guys-pass the info on!

An important comment for everyone!
I almost always use cash these days.
By using cash, you always have knowledge of what you've spent.
Sometimes, though, it is a little scary when change is counted back to me...! Or perhaps I slip in extra coins or ones to get fewer coins and ones back....oh boy that can really confuse people.

Thank you for reading and for the nice comments!
I think 'simplistic' sums up my stuff very well. I try and come up with things that are easy on the eye and the mind. I aim to make a point or to get a message or description across without going around the world to do so!
I still try and be effective as I can in doing so. It may not be everybody's cup of tea,my style of writing, but it's all I know!

Lisa D, your comment made me laugh out loud. Thanks for reading and sharing your beautiful sense of humor. I thought about deleting this poem a few times, but I’m glad I didn’t because your comment, while funny reveals a deeper truth. No less than five guys I know came to mind as I wrote this poem including my estranged husband! I don’t understand love that is only skin deep. I suppose it is more about fears and insecurities.
