An interesting poem which assails many people in a world which causes us to be very peripatetic. The old adage says that the home is where the heart is. Some search for a spiritual home and others never find home because there was no home in the first place. I now live sixty miles from where I was born 70 years ago and I know I am home.
A very good poem. Well done and thanks
Keith

Just in case you can’t see it on my picture
I am a girl
I am a girl,
Men thought they did more work,
They had to hunt,
They had to lurk,
But they weren’t told how to speak,
Or how to dress,
Nor did they need to shout to be heard,
They don’t know what it’s like to be a girl.
I am a girl,
Women’s rights are vital,
We couldn’t vote or leave the house,
Women cleaned, cooked but no appreciation,
Ask Rosa, Coco, Beyoncé too,
Ask Wangari, Malayla, even Florence,
They helped with this,
So thank them,
Or we could not vote, have tutors or even go to school,
I am a girl and you might be too.
I am a girl,
We now can play football, basketball, hockey as well,
We vote, learn, run for president and have tutors,
I am a girl and I’m proud to be too,
I am a girl,
I am a girl,
I am a woman.

I really like this Lucas, lots of nice touches of detail to make it both intriguing and feel very real. The last verse is particularly strong. Looking forward to reading more of your work - it looks to be right up my street. Tom.

I have been told never, ever, consummate a relationship with your muse. Hanky-panky in the ether? Not sure how this works?
Rule 4: Never ever, not once, consummate your relationship with your muse
So if you find yourself tempted by your muse think of the following:
• Meditate on the futility of wasting precious hours cavorting with your muse when you could be writing, painting or sculpting
• Ponder that that your creativity will become enslaved to urges like ‘wanting to make the relationship work’
• Think about what your muse might write on social media.
No worries. I will not fall into temptation. Don't even try Thalia.
Oh. by the way Mae, Thalia says 'hi'........

John,
On a first reading I felt plunged into the eye of a storm with all its pertinent elements thrashing about and then having read it again I felt the inner storm and its destabilising effect on mind and soul. The words, "Grasp these perceptions, cling to the day" speak out as an anchor of stability. I shall read it again later but thank you for this.

Thank you to all who have so knidly commented on this poem. Don is right in what he has to say. This poem is not about my personal grief although it could have been. In fact it refers to my next door neighbour whose wife of 54 years died very recently and whose funeral is this afternoon. I have been in daily contact with him as he is struggling with loss and grief. Fortunately he has children and grandchildren who are very supportive. His wife was a remarkable lady with a finely tuned intellect and an example to her family and all who came into contact with her.
Thank you again
Keith
