Philipos Thanks for reading... Yes a bit of fantasy here, but more so about coping with old age or living longer perhaps. For some the scythe becomes a scalpel... That they run towards.

Glad to see how it got your imagination going!

Nobody other than Peter Pan (and maybe Wendy) defies the grand reaper - but oh for the Days of the Kerry Dancing - to think that it might be true. We'll all end up in the toy box with the fox and perhaps even the goldilocks doll. I quite like the idea of the Piper's tune though. Might mask out the sounds of the tinned prune eaters. Especially if they were on an all night Fahita bender. Sorry about all the ad lib - those PC keys just kicked off on their own. ?

Thanks Rose, I read once that the first thing the most dangerous person in the room does is looks for the most dangerous person in the room, and it seemed true of intelligence as well.
After that, I honestly didn't know where I was going with it but it seemed to develop into a meeting or forum of some kind, so I do get where you're coming from, and there is an element of someone really sharp and incisive orchestrating the whole thing.

Whatever view is held, it must be said that this a first rate pastiche
of a famous Victorian poem. The imagination and use of apt
language to maintain the effect is worthy of high praise indeed. It
demonstrates the sort of effort and commitment one can only wish
was present among those it satirises so adroitly.

Liked both your poems in Printed Words Ruth

Never Settled, Never Serious

The tourist seemed like a lover
who did not care at all
liked the link up with the trunk to the suitcase
and the circus to the clown
the lion tamer watching
maybe fate to reel him in
when all the travelling is done.

I never argue with my Muse
It's Thalia, a she
You didn't know 'bout Thalia?
(She is not a he....)

What a silly rhyme is this
I am a bad example
How am I gonna end this verse?
Can only think of trample

I may be pompous and full, but I always make sense. Show this to your wife and renew her faith in poetry ?

Really, really good Lisa! I love the way the rhythm breaks in the delivery of multiple lines between the tick tocks, it really adds to the urgency of the message because the clock ticks on regular beats so the more words between, the quicker you speak. Very clever.

It seems you haven't yet caught up
My first attempt free verse
Writ on the 6th of August
Took long while, (was a curse)

Titled my 'First Efforts at
New-Age Poetry'
It gotta lotta comments
Which, yes, did pleaseth me

Here are the first few lines
What one might call a 'taster'
But then again dk you might
Think it's all a waster

Time.....

"Beauty is a constant.

To roam the path is to become one with it.

We vibrate, we heal, we are reborn

Have you found your circuit?"

Isn't that music to the ears dk? I can almost hear the heavenly strains of violins in the background.

Shit! Who wrote this script dk?.....

I've made the first step on my road to recovery. I admit I have a problem. I'm an addict. My neurons have given up on me. They want me to go to rehab. I ask is there a nice nurse Caroline there like when I was in hospital? They just shake their heads. See why they've given up?

I'm a mess....

John,

This is amazingly sad, and brilliant. I have met in my life a few men like that, and this brings to mind an old cobbler I once new in Chicago, who was put out of his craft by large scale manufacture. He would never beg, however. He always maintained his suit and hat as best he could. His stained tie always knotted perfectly. Thank you for this.

Jason,

Shmacking good stuff. Iambic pentameter always supports big verse and solid rhyme. Well done. The poem is reflective of a style that was thrown off by the modernists and post-modernists. This is a wonderful revival.

Wow, my friend! A lot of dexterity and eloquence went into that piece. I believe that every writer dreams of writing something like that! Beautiful poetry and in impeccable iambic pentameter! Excellent piece Jason! You have always been an excellent poet but with this one you have taken it to whole new levels of brilliance! Begone demon, whoever yours is! I'm only a bit bummed that I didn't get to see the evolution of it, you mentioned editing, I got to the piece when it was perfected! Whatever it was you did , it worked! Kudos?
