Golly gosh your French Connect
It does sound a bit saucy
With messy miss and splashy paint
And he up miss? sounds horsey
Now Nigel you're a fun writer
(Assume you're good on mic)
I don't know what I'm writing 'bout
(I'll quietly disappear.....)
See you on the blogslide.....?

Ruth - can I direct you to my piece 'Pact', which I have reposted today. I share your concerns over what we are doing to this planet, especially in light of the recent, deliberately set, fires in the Amazon and areas of Africa. The deforestation to clear for agriculture, including the proliferation of palm oil farms in Asia, is surely the most counter-productive destruction of resources. As usual, some people are getting very rich, but at what cost to the rest? Keep on protesting!

You've sparked me off Ruth.
Earthlings take note
I've offered myself
You've damaged me so
You've plundered my wealth
You'd better start thinking
And stop all this greed
I'll stop all my offerings
No more will I feed

Adam,
This is stunning. The if/then structure of the poem bricked with layer upon layer of concrete imagery is immaculate in its mounting pressure. "Hummed cool fermentation" - you devil! This whole poem hums cool fermentation.

I am with you in this Rachel aside from the political nonsense that goes on and there is plenty of that going on right now, there is this whole ethos around producing and consuming. Consuming being the operative word here in that we are asked to consume anything that is put in front of us not least the rhetoric that is espoused by the loudest voices.
I look forward to more of your work
Thanks for posting

I like your verse.
To paraphrase someone else on men not wanting to be seen crying.
"Crying is not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength in having the courage to show intense emotion"
It changed my thinking completely on this issue which has become a big problem in our society.

The simple lives of birds, for all their bloom and song,
remain forever wary of the hawk's long shadow,
descend into silence, meek among the leaves,
eyeing grubs, as another is thrashed for singing too long.

I love it Ray and can empathise with your couple's swollen ankles having played two hours of tennis on Wed and Thurs and four hours golf today. I'm having trouble this evening putting one foot in front of the other so I'm reclining on my sofa and contributing to your blog, attempting to fill the void left by an erstwhile contributor.

Ankita,
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. You opened the gates to what could have been a very productive discussion. It is too bad that "Equality and empowerment" did not receive much commentary. I say that because you brought up some very interesting views and questions.
My thought is that equality begins with respect of the individual and the recognition/admission of the facts of inequality. I believe there needs to be more women in positions of influence to change the script of objectification to one in which merit, regardless of gender or race is the order of the day. And by merit, I don't mean successfully completing this or that given test. What I mean is willingness, tenacity, passion, etc. Recognizing those traits in a person, and having systems in place to foster the growth of the whole person, the sky would be the limit, not some manufactured glass ceiling.
