The berries wax beneath the burnished sun
In southern lands renowned for tropic charm
Encircled by the lap of oceans warm, -
Until their seeds’ extraction is begun;
Then south to north they pass in eager trade
And roasted long, becoming rich and brown; -
Until, transformed by processes unknown
The finely-flavoured coffee bean is made;
Then Costa Coffee takes those eager beans
And puts their essence in a thousand cups;
Ere serving up this fragrant drink of dreams
In bright arcades where eager shoppers move;
Where quite relaxed, the coffee-drinker sups -
The happy winner of an act of love.
