All that Jazz

It’s hard to see local charms through glasses steamed with summer rain.
My hat pulled tightly on my head, I strain to hear busking refrains.
Muffled notes from musicians,
Sheltering in doorway havens,
float above our umbrellas - In the bloody rain!
It saddens my soul and sours my smile
as I swap knowing nods with passers by.
Sodden feet in strappy shoes -
More soggy Saturday shopping blues - This bloody bloody rain!!!!!!
I hear them blasting up ahead.
“We’ll chase away the rain” they said.
Moving in rhythmic defiance,
and downright soggy alliance.
With exuberant attitude, they enthral
the gathering crowd who to a man are all
rooted in this contagious mood.
Our spirits filled, we spill onto road.
No holding back, they blast and blow
Cee Lo Green’s “Forget You” and off we go!
“UMBRELLAS ! ” they yell and right on cue
a patchwork of bouncing brollies of every hue,
move and bob to the brassy beat
in rhythmic waves as we tap our feet. - splashing in the bloody rain.
We laugh as one at their ironic version
of “Walking on Sunshine!” in liquid immersion.
I push back hood, soak the wet in.
Grin as cool rain electrifies my skin.
Then they end! We walk away with changed heart, feeling just fine, as they knew we would.
“Sod the bloody rain” I say. I’m walking on sunshine. I’m walking on sunshine. - And don’t it feel good?
In the glorious rain!
