MUSICAL FOLK
Three guitars and a flute,
recorder, concertina and bodhran,
these musical folk in the pub with
files of dotted paper,
Instruments tuned and ready.
Strange titles like Namesty
Ashoken Farewell, Da New Rigged Ship
and Davy Knick Knack.
Diddly dum I want to dance in this
warm friendly feeling,
bum notes glossed over as
players choose in turn what to play.
Confusing repeats, unusual seguë
into a different tune altogether
for audience of one.
who follows the dots to make sense of it all,
wears out her hands in clapping her pleasure,
and her feet from tapping the beat.
Goes home still jigging, ears buzzing,
sleeps to the sound of ghostly tunes playing.
