A multi-media performance of poetry inspired by the Kalevala, from Bob Beagrie (Forward Prize shortlisted, 2008) and Andy Willoughby, set to original music from Gobble Racket.
Reviews for SAMPO:
"Charting both the ebb and flow of the Tees, and the northern winds whistling through Finnish trees, this is a stunning soundscape... Reaching places most poets don’t reach." David Woolley (Dylan Thomas Centre, Swansea)
"There are a great many retellings of myths and - because of the nature of myth itself - countless modernisations. What Bob Beagrie and Andy Willoughby do, however, is distinctly less common, as they hot-wire their original Finnish source material and, with a back seat full of fine musicians, drive it dangerously and exhilaratingly into the Northern Europe of the 21st century." (Oz Hardwick)
Price: £5.00
