After twenty years playing in rock bands, Martin Newell became a successful poet and broadcaster in 1990. He became known as an antidote to what he calls “the well serious brigade”, performing rude rock-culture poems at breakneck speed. He has since published ten collections of verse and one pop memoir, writing for The Independent for 15 years before taking up his current post as poet in residence at the Sunday Express, making him the UK’s most published poet. When not gardening, writing books or making music at his home in Essex, he occasionally appears on TV and as a guest presenter on Radios 3 and 4.
