Celebrating Rudyard Kipling and his roots. His life and poetry, and his remarkable father John Lockwood Kipling.
Rudyard Kipling was born in India. Rudyard's father was John Lockwood Kipling. He was an artist, designer, teacher and driving force in India's development of its own artistic traditions. John Lockwood was born 6th July 1837 in Pickering, Yorkshire, and his parents settled in Skipton just a short distance from the Cross Keys. Some biographies claim John Lockwood and his bride, Alice, honeymooned in Skipton.
Glyn Watkins is a Bradford based poet, writer and performer and has been:
'Bard of the Red Beard' at The Ginger Family Festival at the National Botanic Garden of Wales;
'South Milford’s Poet of Fete';
Sustran’s 'Lost Line Poet' at Queensbury;
The Ilkley Festival Uncut Fringe;
and creator of ‘J.B. Priestley and Pie’ and
‘Curry and Kipling’ nights.
Entry: Tickets will be priced between £10 and £15
