World-class Line-Up in Suffolk
From Britain, South Africa and America – three distinctive, world-class voices celebrate the power of the spoken word.
Alan Brownjohn is a national treasure. Born in 1931 in London where he still lives, he has worked as a lecturer, reviewer, editor, translator and novelist. Author of twelve collections – most recently Collected Poems 1952-2006 – he is a consummately skilled and inventive poet, loved for his deadpan aplomb and subversive wit.
Finuala Dowling: One of South Africa’s most engaging writers, Finuala Dowling was born in Cape Town in 1962 and has published two novels and three poetry collections. She made her scintillating UK debut at the Aldeburgh Poetry Festival in 2006 when she wowed the audience with her onstage energy and her mix of eloquence, disarming comedy and compassion.
Sharon Olds: The woman many regard as America’s greatest living poet’ according to a recent Guardian interview, Sharon Olds was born in 1942 and lives in New York. From her very first collection in 1980 up to her most recent ninth book One Secret Thing (2009), she’s been astonishing readers all around the world with her bold investigations into love, sexuality and death. Impeccable poems: exhilarating and deeply sustaining.
Performance suitable for adults and older teenagers.
