ROLL UP, ROLL UP
....Fourpenny Circus is coming to town! Salford to be exact. Four poets, a mysterious box and an invisible lion - with brilliant and thought-provoking material played out on stage by four Cheshire Poets Laureate. Jo Bell, in costume as ringmistress, tells us about the show. 'It's good poetry, well performed - for hardened poetry fans, live literature 'virgins' and dedicated readers of page poetry. One person called us intellectual Viagra, and a woman said she smiled so much her face still hurt the next day!'
Fourpenny Circus brings together Jo, Andrew Rudd, Joy Winkler and John Lindley under the direction of Kevin Dyer. They've toured since May in venues like the Bluecoat and the Brewery, in village halls and at festivals including the Birmingham Book Festival and Chester Oyez Festival. 'We're always willing to make fools of ourselves if it brings poetry to people's door. This time we're dressed up as a ringmistress, lion tamer, escapologist and tightrope walker.' Even after months of touring Jo still doesn't know how to explain the show - 'so get onto YouTube and type in Fourpenny Circus.'
