Giant Knitted Poem
This event on 22nd November 2009 has past.
Contact: L.Tempest@manchester.gov.uk
To celebrate the centenary of the Poetry Society, an enormous knitted poem has been created which was unveiled at the British Library in London earlier this year. The poem is the work of more than a thousand knitters worldwide (including many from Manchester!!) and is now revealed in all its glory, a 13 x 9 metre knitted version of Dylan Thomas' poem, 'In My Craft or Sullen Light.' This fantastic and beautiful work of art is now on the road, making guest appearances at a few lucky venues - and it's coming to Manchester this weekend.
Now - because of the huge size of the poem, it sadly cannot be accomodated at the Library - instead, it will be appearing at the historic Victoria Baths this Sunday.
There will be Open Mic poetry from 2pm - 3pm - please do turn up with a poem if you would like to read.
From 3pm onwards, two wonderful Manchester-based poets & dedicated knitters will be reading - LINDA CHASE & VONA GROAKE.
This may be your only chance to see this glorious, unique 43-foot woollen poetic marvel!
Entry: Free
Time: 12 - 4pm
