Sean O’Brien is Professor of Creative Writing at Newcastle University. The Drowned Book (2007) won the Forward and T. S. Eliot poetry prizes. His collection of short stories, The Silence Room, appeared in 2008. Afterlife (Picador, 2009) ‘reveals he is also a novelist, one whose emotional intelligence informs a satisfying formal sophistication. His wittily-observed wreckers haunt all our emotional and working lives’ (Fiona Sampson, TLS).
Michael O’Neill is Professor of English at Durham University and the author of two collections of poetry, The Stripped Bed (Collins Harvill, 1990) and Wheel (Arc, 2008), described by Bernard O’Donoghue as ‘a book of sympathy and insight that takes its place in your mind unforgettably’, and by John Greening in the TLS as a volume that ‘reminds us just how subtle a poet he is’. He received a Cholmondeley Award in 1990.
