Jean is the author of three books of poetry and a collection of short stories.
Tattoos for Mothers Day (Spike, 1997) was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection. Hard Water (Cape, 2003) was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation, and was shortlisted for both the T S Eliot Prize and the Whitbread Award for Poetry. Her third collection, Tilt, won the 2007 Costa Poetry Award.
Jean was chosen as one of the Next Generation Poets in 2004. She joined the Manchester Writing School as a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing in September 2009, and this event officially welcomes her to MMU.
Jean will be reading from and talking about her work, and answering questions from the audience. A selection of Jean’s publications will be available to purchase from a special Blackwell’s bookstall on the night. Complimentary drinks will be available on arrival.
